October Meeting

We had our October meeting this past Monday night. It was good to see everyone again. There was a good turnout.

For a change of pace, we had the meeting at Elizabeth's studio - so she could demonstrate making bottles.

Katherine was kind enough to take some pictures and send them
to me.

In this first picture - Elizabeth is showing us that "after you have
raised the cylinder - you need to set the portion of clay that will become the top of the bottle"

In the second picture - she is showing us how to bring in and
form the top.

The third picture shows us the finished bottle after it has
been formed - and "Needle" trimmed on the wheel.

And lastly - Elizabeth does some wonderful
Crystalline Glazing. Here is a picture of 4 of her pieces
all finished.

Thank you very much Elizabeth. Everyone was very impressed
with the demonstration. It was followed by some general discussion on crystalline glazing techniques.........
(maybe we can talk Elizabeth into doing a crystalline glaze
workshop for us).

Looking forward to seeing everyone in November.

Did You Come to Our Sale?

We were busy. So busy in fact that I only had time to get around and take 1 picture before it all started.

This is Tammy's table.

I'm hoping that I will have more pictures to upload soon.

There were 9 potters in attendance - and an awful lot of really wonderful pottery.

Luke - as always - demostrated throwing pots out in the hallway. Katherine demonstrated some
scaffito techniques.

Thanks to everyone that helped out - it was a wonderful sale.

I am still trying to upload some videos of Luke demonstrating throwing - so keep checking back.

Simon Leach Workshop

This past weekend, Barb, Jane, Linda and Tammy all journeyed to Peterborough, Ontario to take part in the Fusion Winter Workshop - with Simon Leach as the Presenter.

We had a great time.

Simon is the youngest grandson of Bernard Leach - and a very personable presenter.

The focus of the workshop was really about Production Potters. Simon gave us a lot of great tips on how to make things move more efficiently in the studio.

We started out with a bit of fun:

Throwing 2 bowls at the same time OR how to make twice as much pottery in the same amount of time:

From there we moved on and Simon Threw several bowl forms - and taught us some simple - and unique decorating tips:

This bowl has a simple - yet effective Paddling technique on it:

And this bowl was fluted - using a broken hacksaw blade:

Simon went on to teach us several different and useful throwing techniques. He produced quite a few very nice - yet simple and elegant pieces over the weekend.

I think I can safely speak for the rest of the group - although it was a long trip, a good time was had by all. It was a very interesting and informative weekend.
